Does anyone really understand the difference between a Dana 60 & Dana 61? I’ve read several things, such as the center section was recast to accommodate different gear ratios, or the carrier is different, but I’m not sure if I buy any if that. From what I can find, 3.07 & 3.54 gears are Dana 61 and 3.54, 3.73, 4.10, 4.56, etc. are Dana 60. My truck came with factory 3.54 gears, and according to my Bill of Materials (610342-2) I have a Dana 61. What does this mean? Am I going to live? Are the Dana 61 less desirable?

i think the u joints (steering) are a little more heavy duty in the 61s but other than that i dont know

It's still a 60, I believe the 1 designates reverse rotation for front wheel drive.
