D60 exteral Lockouts
D60 exteral Lockouts
my dads 90 has the large selectro external style lockouts. We seem to have lots of trouble with these things holding up for some reason.
This is also the only CTD I have seen with these style of hubs.
Is Milemarker (now owns selectro) the only source for these?
Or does anybody have any drive flanges for this axle and do away with the hubs since he always leaves them locked in anyway?

The `70's Dodge trucks with D60 fronts and np203 transfercases had the drive flanges you want, they are rare and have mostly been bought up by hardcore 4 wheelers. If you follow this link it says the flanges have long since been discontinued. You could try a machine shop to make you some or convert the hubs to the later style internal splined hubs, these are stronger and if that doesn't hold up you can get aftermarket flanges for the internal style. http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billav...ont/index.html
I ran across a ramcharger in the wreckers the other day with the full time setup , and most likely the flanges you want. I'm no where near where you are, but it shows that they sometimes show up at the wreckers. If you can find some in good condition, it might be worth it. Certainly would be cheaper.
I know that alot of larger wreckers will have a bit of a "parts network", whereby they can find what you need and have it brought to their site for you to pick up. They sometimes have computer inventory at a few sites etc. Hope this helps.

The external style lockouts are different. the inside of the hub is not splined like an internal style.
Instead the lockout bolts onto the face of the hub with a circle of bolts. These bolts transfer the rotational force to the hub from the alxeshaft.
The problem with the new selectros is the interal parts are made of aluminum and break easily it seems.
the D60 front FAQ that was posted early in this thread shows both types with pics.
Frostie:
Do you mean trade the lockouts for the flanges? I will ask and see what he thinks.

Well they answer the D61 question. I wasn't certain whether the 60 was modified like the 70 for the 3:07, or not. I knew I had seen D60 Ford rear ends, but didn't know they were also the 61. Thanks for the link Flake. I may have to ask for it in the future though, next time they overhaul the computer here.
