Question Custom Intake Cross-over Pipe ??

I just saw BGilbert's add for a three-inch intake adapter and it got me to thinking.

All other things remaining the same, would I lower my EGTs by building a new intake cross-over pipe that terminated in a three-inch intake horn pointing straight up??

If I understood correctly, the horn in BGilbert's add can be oriented to point straight up; is this correct??

We are talking about my non-I/C 89 engine.

If the intake horn pointed forward, or aft, it would necessitate two 90* elbows at the horn, thereby losing quite a bit of any advantage gained.

Thanks.

One can point forward or back, the other to either side. I dont know about lowering egts much but it would be a benefit over the n/i crossover. Im building a 2 1/2" crossover from exhaust tubing as we speak so that I can upgrade the turbo.

That means it's time for a body-lift.

All in all, the two inch body-lift on my Ford made every other thing I have ever had to do on it since a WHOLE lot easier.

It is unreal how much clearance around the engine/bell-housing/transmission a mere two inches can make.

I don't see why it would rub as long as you cut, weld, bend or fab it right.

Its in the stickie. Plus with 2.5" it will be even better than the stock ic horn and will mate right up to the turbo.

Does anyone know the best way to tap into exhaust tubing for boost fitting and maybe w/m fittings?...I may go ahead and tap and plug for some future w/m and nozzles.

The best way that is done is to weld a bung onto the tube. Tubing is so thing that theres really no way to get more than maybe 1 or 2 pitches of thread with a tap. Take some 1x2x3/8" strap or something similar, tap a hole in that and then weld all the way around it to seal it to the tube, that'll do it.

What sticky are you talking about? I have a 3.5" crossover, so I know 3" will fit.

What will a bigger cross-over do for EGTs??

Thanks.

Can't hurt. Might decrease back pressure- less restriction, less boost somewhat, but same or more air flow to the intake.
