cruching noise in steering column

cruching noise in steering column

Hello everybody,I got a crunching noise in steering column sounds like its coming from the firewall area of the column. steering gets stiff and then crunches and gets easy again and so on is there bearing in that part of the column, has anybody had this problem. Thanks ahead of time for any info.

cc and horn work fine noise is coming from around the firewall .

Crunch it a few more times, they'll stop working.

Or it could be the inner column coming apart from the outer column.

i would bet the clock spring also. It is not something that you want to drive around with busted. It will bind your steering not allowing you to move the wheel.

Check your rag joint and its flange mounting where the steering comes through the firewall. Corrosion and fatigue may be setting in.

time for a borgeson steering shaft...? i mean, what the heck, if it is corroding and getting fatigued like trebor says, it's an upgrade that's well worth the time and money.
