Aeromotive fuel system

I am trying to piece one of these together because I am preparing to install my 14mm h/r. where is the best place to buy the pump, regulator, and steel braided lines? I really need a parts list of what I need. I am also planning on getting a filter head and setup to mount on my frame rail so I can delete my stock LP and filter location. Does anyone have a walk through on a A1000 setup?? Thanks

I was pretty sure "soggy" had a thread on his A1000 install and it was very good.

Areomotive has a good catalog. Internet shopping will result in cheaper prices on most of what you need. Get on your computer and order ya a free catalog from them and while your at it order ya a Dakota Digital catalog. Dakota has some cool stuff too. Good luck with your truck.

Suction side filter get the expensive inline unit from Aeromotive. Pressure side, any 1"14tpi filter base with your choice of filter. I use FS1212, shorter version of FS1000. I use the cheap(er) 'pushlok' Aeromotive fuel hose, not braided.

Ramrod90 if your going to do the big bucks pump filter ect. spend an extra $200.00 and get you a sump for your tank. I bought mine from a friend who decided to quit the hotrod truck thing. It is made by a guy in Rosenburg Tx. I don't remember the co. name but the quality is topshelf. The one I've got has 4 choices for suction side to draw from and looks to hang down from the tank about 2 1/2''. It would solve any fuel suction problems that's associated with the drawstraw type suction. If I find the name i'll post it.

Stupid rediculous question but do our tanks have baffles or are just open?

No baffles, wide open. You can start sucking air going up a long enough, steep enough grade with less than a 1/4 tank. That's the reason for the pickup design, and also why I like the sump idea. But I think I would make a larger more conically-shaped sump with the line coming out the center.

Yea maybe dual sumps both "T" into each the suction line, so if you're going downhill or uphill you'll always have fuel if you're a little low. idk

That would work if you could rig a float valve of some kind to close the one that was on the wrong end of the tank. Otherwise you'd be guaranteed to be sucking air at some point after the fuel dropped to a certain level.

Joe Hellman sp? makes a really nice sump. For added insurance you could make a cover for it with like a 3/4" hole in the center of it. That would let the fuel go down into it, but not slosh out so easy.
On the '89 I just put a -12an 90* fitting in the bottom of the tank, got that idea from Bgilbert, works fine. I was a little hesitant to do that on my '93(cornfields and such), so I just used a long piece of 1/2" line with a slash cut end. It is weighted so it stays right at the lowest point of the tank. I ran it to a 90* fitting in the extra hole in the pickup assembly. I have ran the fuel level down to the empty line(gauge works), going up hill and down, never lost an fuel pressure.

For a prefilter use the Aeromotive one, or Summit has recently started selling a cheaper version of it. Either way you have a cleanable, re-usable 100 micron SS screen.

Yep Hellmans is the one I have. It is really a quality piece. This one looks like my buddy modified it to have 4 outlets instead of 2 for some reason.

Sweet thanks for the pointers, I do plan on getting a sump instead of a draw straw but how do I get one of those hellman setups? is he online or do I gotta give him a call?

I was looking at the aeromotive website and they have a filter head setup and also 2 different sizes of suction size filters. I believe they were 10micron and 100micron. Should I get the 10micron so it desn't clog as easily ro get the 100 for maximum filtration. I believe the filter head on their site has the correct threading for the 1212 filter but I may just get one off the site so I know it fits. Unless you guy's know of a better site to get a filter head off of. Thanks.

how does the aeromotive system compare to a 2nd gen piston pump set-up? what do you do with either the diaphragm or piston lift pump if this is used? i know they make block off plates, but i'd leave mine on as a backup. how could the a-1000 system then be plumbed? also, is the factory fuel filter no longer used? or is it run in series after the a-1000 filter and then into the injection pump?

the thread brandon linked to is very helpful and is a nice write-up. i would, however, like to see more pics.
