A-1000 Fuel System

I got started on it today, just waiting for a few more fittings and the sump, I'm planning on putting some pics up when i get it buttoned up. My question is this: how have you guys running electric pumps wired them up? I want the pump to start when i turn the key, I don't like electrical stuff and it doesn't like me either.

You can trigger the relay off any dark blue wire under the hood.

It's not too difficult, otherwise i wouldn't be doing it. Wanna, you mean if I run the pump power off a dark blue wire it will turn on when i turn the key?

Don't run the pump directly off a blue wire, you will burn out the ignition switch or blow the fuse. Use a dark blue wire to trigger the relay that will run the pump.

If you go down a few pages there is wiring instructions. So i would run power from the battery to a relay w/a dark blue on it and then from there to the pump? What's the wire from the injection pump to the relay for?

You mean the diagram in step 9? Wire it just like that. Hook a blue wire to terminal 85.

^^ What he said.

I used the shut-off solenoid wire to trigger the relay, on pin 85. I also put a switch between pin 86 and ground, so that I can have the key on without the fuel pump running, if wanted.

You could put the switch on the power side, but it worked easier for me on the ground.

Preferably use a Bosch 30 amp relay.

To turn the relay on. A relay is an electrically activated switch. It will use a small amount of current from the signal wire (blue wire, or shut-off solenoid wire), to activated a set of high current contacts between pins 30 and 87.

If you did not want to use a relay, you would need a 30 amp switch.

With the relay, it will work like the A-1000 was factory.

I got it finished finally, not going to be a real writeup but I'll try to give a little info.

I took the bed off to do it and I would recommend doing that if you're doing a fuel system. If you have a nice John Deere loader tractor around that is.

I ran a 5/8 line from the Hellman sump to the A-1000.

I also put the Aeromotive 100 micron inline filter just before the pump and then ran a 1/2 in line from the pump to the filter, and continued with a 1/2 in line to the regulator.

The regulator is an Aeromotive 13204, adjustable from 3-15psi and capable of boost referencing. I'm going to hold off on the boost referencing until I get a built pump and big sticks. From the regulator I ran a 3/8 in line to the VE and a 1/2 return line back to the tank. Fatty built me a mounting bracket.

Pics of the regulator.

For the return I used a fitting that was left over from my brothers Airdog kit. It was for the drawstraw but he went with a sump also.

Although I didn't really do this mod to get me more power( it was more to be able to support lots of power) I did notice it is way stronger on the top end. Also a little more boost and higher egts.

What does that sump run? Those are pretty trick.

Looks good, you shouldn't have to worry about more lift pump for awhile.

How is everyone wiring these? Run whenever the ignition is on? Anybody run it through an oil pressure switch so it only runs when the engine is running?

If you do it that way you need to add a relay to trigger it when the engine is cranking. Otherwise it could be a real bugger to start if you ran out of fuel or lost prime somehow.

It is a very good idea from a safety standpoint.
