Crew Cab Conversion Questions

I did a search and didn't end up finding the answer so here it goes, sorry if its been covered in length before.

Starting with a gas crew cab, putting in Cummins engine of course.

First Question
Are either the 1993 dodge Driveshafts OR the 1980 Crew cab driveshafts gonna be any use to me or am I looking at new driveshafts regardless?

There is a guy who's posted up a 5 spd tranny with driveshafts from a 1993 Dodge diesel, not sure if its ext cab or reg cab.

Second Question

Can I reuse my pedals or do I have to use the 93 setup, What parts do I need to source out to make the tranny turn?

Unfortunalty I'm not getting a complete donor truck so I have no vehicle to reference against.

Thanks again

Not sure if the Getrag used a "linkage" set up for the clutch, or went with the Hyd. clutch set up? I know since my crewcab is running a 95 NV4500 I have a hyd clutch set-up. Regardless you can still use your pedals, it's just what it will be attached to is the question.

As for drive shafts...You can probably use the ones from your crewcab...BUT...you might need to have a new yoke that goes into the output shaft on the tranny, and maybe a slight shorten and re-balance.

Ok

Third Question

I'm gonna buy a 2nd Gen aluminum IC for the '93 cummins thats going in my 1980 crew. Any issues with the stock Grill? Any other parts needed, sounds like larger ports on the 2 Gen IC so either a reducer on the IC or modify the intake and turbo inlet??? I'm guessing

What grille are you going to use? The stock 80 grille or a 93? regardless you are going to have to do some cutting and fab work to make it work. You can buy reducer boots to go from the larger IC tube size to the smaller turbo tube.

You can use the crew cab's drive shaft but it will not last very long behind the Cummins. Find a set of shafts out of a Ext cab Cummins truck to use and then change the yokes on your axles to match. The stock cummins joints are 1410 and the gas crew cab's joints are much smaller.

The stock crew cab shaft in my truck lasted less than 5000 miles. I pulled out in to traffic one day and got on the skinny pedal and it dropped the shaft out in the road.

Good luck.

My 2 piece drive shaft I have a heavy duty 1410 U-joints on the front shaft, and then on the front of the rear shaft, then the tiny little mopar U-joint on the diff and back of the rear drive shaft. I know it's a weak link and plan to upgrade the yoke on the diff and drive shaft...eventually. Good thing I'm not a heavy right pedal junky....
