I am not certain if it is just the diesels. It would seem that it is fleet wide considering there are little to no repair panels left from the dealer. These trucks have had a reputation for a rough ride. If the suspension doesn't give, the, frame has too. That little "dog shake" at shutdown doesn't help either.

According to the TSB, '93 and earlier 'Ram Truck/Ramcharger' is effected. So not just just the diesels, though I suppose with the heavier engine on the frame we would see higher frequency of occurance.

The primary reason I can think of is water leaking. I am not sure how much a crack effects the structure of the cab. It also causes additional noise. I was made aware of the problem through this forum and I am still researching what I need to do about it.

I wonder if a fella could cut a section out of a good cowl and rivet or mig it in? I've got a good cowl on my parts truck and about 3'' of water on the floor of my Cummins everytime it rains....

I don't know why you shouldn't be able to do your own patch. There is a thread in the 'how do I' section that Wannadiesel has graciously put together for us. Take a peek.

You know, that is the 'auto cab-drain' feature finally being activated. Also a good way to get your feet washed when crossing a good stream.

From what I can see, the crack on my driver side is about 6-8'' long and upwards of a half-inch wide in spots! Never mind the 'squeeka squeeka' once my out of round wheels get the cab to shaking at 55
