Couple of questions
Couple of questions
I've had my truck for 6 years now.
She is a 92 W250 4x4.
The guy I bought it off said he did a whole lot of mods but was too stunned/stupid/brain dead (you get the picture) to tell me what he did. He was unsure but said he had the fuel pump tweaked, a 24 valve turbo, and larger injectors.
My problem is I don't know anyone else where I live that has one of these old girls and I have no one to bounce questions off or have a look at their rig and compare notes.
I myself don't really know too much (engine wise) and have found the most informative place to find stuff out is here.
UNFORTUNATELY YOU ALL MAKE ME CRAZY WITH YOUR OWN PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS AND I'M CONSTANTLY AGONIZING TO WHETHER OR NOT I'M IN THE SAME BOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I put in a new auto trans with a 6 pin planetary.
Did the power pin, 3200 rpm spring, did the KDP (which I didn't even know existed till I joined up here) tranny cooler and a cold air intake, and it has a 3 1/2" exhaust
1. When I start and idle up my truck to operating temp is blows TONS of blue (fuel, you can smell it, no oil) When I stomp on it I feel like I'm driving a old locomotive I push so much black smoke.
2. When I'm doing 110KM or 70 MPH I am reading 800 degrees on my pyro and I'm at 8lbs boost. When I floor it I read 1300-1400 pyro and 37lbs boost up to 100MPH. Truck pulls hard and shifts great. Lots of power. Almost no turbo lag.
3. When I fill up I get 600KM or 375Miles per tank. That's just driving it normal.
4. When I give it full power and quickly let of the throttle I get a REAL loud waste gate noise.
My questions are: timing, valve adjustment and ppump (??) adjustment. I've been reading the stickies and figure I can do the valves but the timing and ppump leave me scratching my head. Is there a fuel filter on the fuel pump??
Anyone care to leave me a few ideas or answers (if you not too tired reading all this) I'm sure something must jump out to you who know these trucks inside and out. Or am I just jumping at shadows??
ANYONE live in central Alberta that can help me out??
All I can turn to is the Dodge dealership and that costs big bucks and they only really want to work on the newer trucks, all my questions about performance leave them telling me to keep it stock.
Thanks to all who post replies for others as it usually helps me out as well.
Cheers!!!!

have you looked in the sticky ??
i believe there is an artical on advancing the timing! its really not that hard!!
as for the blue smoke on warm up its probably just old work injectors i wouldnt worry about it!!
the excess smoke at wide open could be cleaned up by raising your star wheel!! again look in the sticky about tuning the ve pump!!
theres alot of good info in there!!
good luck!!

I've seen a few guys from Alberta on here....keep your eyes pealed on there info and PM them when you spot them.
Pretty sure you have a VE pump...not a P-Pump.

There should be timing marks on the pump and where it attaches to the timing gear case. Get some degreaser and clean it down if you can see 'em. Actually, do the whole engine while you're there, it'll help with heat expulsion.
When the marks on the case and the pump line up you're at stock.
Blue smoke is NORMAL at cold start up. It'll get thicker the colder it gets. It's oil burning off because the rings aren't fully expanded in the bore yet, (until the block warms up a bit) and so don't scrape all the oil off the cylinder walls. Depending on how many miles you have on your truck, and how badly it was used/abused, (or not) you can expect to burn around a quart every oil change or so. I don't care what anyone says, this is NORMAL!!!
Yeah, 375 miles is kinda low. Check your tire pressures first of all. Quality of oil? Rebuilt tranny? What kind of convertor is in there, any idea? Even a stock one should yeild better than that unless you've got a lead foot.
UNFORTUNATELY YOU ALL MAKE ME CRAZY WITH YOUR OWN PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS AND I'M CONSTANTLY AGONIZING TO WHETHER OR NOT I'M IN THE SAME BOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was like this too, but my only advise is to keep reading. It eventually all made sense and when my truck didn't fall apart after agonizing over, 'Does my truck have THAT problem?!' I just figured out what my base line was. I think most every truck has issues, but some are more terminal than others.
Your point #2 seems normal to me. Maybe a bit high but not terrible. Are you intercooled? If you want it cooler, that's a good place to start if not. Also, you could try getting a bigger compressor wheel for your turbo.
No filter on the pump AFAIK, but there is a fuel/water seperator back towards the firewall. If you haven't changed this in 6 years, you'd better get one quick!
Hope this helps.

374 000km I don't abuse it even when I'm working it.
It is intercooled
Fuel filter is 3 years old, I'm off to get one today

Tires are good and all have the same pressure
Quaker state 15w40
I have the stock fuel tank 120L
Thanks for yours (and the others) replies.
But when you get fuel how much does it take to fill it up maybe you are now using all the fuel in the tank. The gauge may not be accurate have you ever calculated the fuel mileage?
Next fill I'll do the math and figure it out.
To be honest I don't really care about mileage, but now if there is a problem I'd like to rule it out as a cause.

The floats/sender units on these trucks really do suck, don't they.
