Converting my 250 into a Dually.

Do any of you have any tips on converting my 93 D250 into a dually. I believe the dually tires with bold right on there with no problems. Also trying to find dually fenders for my bed is near imposible! I have a guy that can sell me a dually bed for $300, but I'll have to re-paint my truck, witch means blasting the Rhino Lineing off the cab.

You'll need to convert to larger, 5/8" wheel studs in order for the wheels to bolt up and will also need the dually adapters for the front and rear. I'd personally try to find a dually axle instead of adapters for the rear.

And the bed, why not just paint the bed to match the truck instead of painting the rest of the truck to match the bed? Much easier and less work to do it that way.

My whole truck is Rhino Lined, It would be cheaper to just repaint it. And why would you rather get a whole other axle?

To have a bed Rhino lined inside and over the bed is under $500. I don't foresee hitting the outside of the bed being much more.

It's my personal opinion that I'd rather replace the axle rather than simply using spacers to do the job. Of course, you're free to do as you please being that it is your truck. It's just my opinion though. The dually axles are wider than the SRW axles and the drums on them differ slighty than the SRW drums also. Unless you space them out to match the overall width of a dually axle, it will look awkward.

Here's a cab and chassis DRW axle under a dually bed. I believe the SRW axles are only slightly wider than this.

I'm going to run some fat mud grips so I don't think that will matter, But thank you for showing me this. I'm kinda new to all of this stuff. I've had my 93 since I turned 15 and I'm 18 now, and I've decided that my truck needs some changes so I'm trying to make it more Bada** than it already is. I've only got a banks kit on it that came with injecters, turbo, radiator, someother stuff I can't remeber, I've turned my fuel pin to me most aggressive sidem and turned my starwheel ( I think thats what it's called) 2 1/2 clicks. And it seems to run very nice. But I want more!!

Yes sir! Always looking for something to do to my truck. This forum had been amazing for knowledge. Without it I wouldn't have been able to turn my truck up myself.

Jim i was thinking that a SRW was even narrower than a cab chassy rearend.

i put 2 inch spacers on my truck and it looks about your pics.

this is the only pic i have from the rear, if you need a better one i will get one.

mine could use another 1 1/2 - 2 inches on both sides to make it look like a factory dually.

I wouldn't waste the money won't gain that much. I have 93 dually tires cost more, lugs are hard to center less traction, have to be hauling a heck of a load to make it worth while.

How wide is the factory DRW axle?

Another route is to look for cube van rear axles.... lots of them are Dana 70's... newer ones are disc brake. Most are 72-73" wide, some are up to 76" wide.

IIRC, the pick-up DRW axle is 60" between the backing plates. The cab and chassis DRW axles are 55".

I'm talking across the wheel mounting surface (wms to wms). Backing plate measurements can be deceptive due to brake and hub differences.

Here are some pics of this done to a '92 d250. I have done this to a '90. '91, '92, and a '93 4x4. Still have the front hubs for the 4x4 if someone needs them. The only thing necessary is to drill the hubs for the bigger studs and they will bolt right on. No spacers needed really, it will be cab and chassis width. Especially if you build youe flat bed like I do, you will appreciate the small bit of difference. Also if you want to use the stock bed they look fine with just off road fender flares. Here is a pic of the same treatment on a '98, but it was a little more work. Moved the backing plates inward for the deep D350 drums. These years have bigger O.D. drums so had to use the D350 drums. Some of the pics are in the following links.
