The conversion started! Auto to NV4500
Well guys and girls I did my getrag to nv4500 last year on my dually and my dad loves it so much I told him I would do his W350 this year. I started last Thurs by removing the tranny, t-case, drive lines, cooler, and lines. Then yesterday I installed the clutch slave bracket, clutch slave kit, clutch pedals, and today I removed the two lines going into the tranny fluid tank on the passengerside on the engine. I cut them short and hammered tight! Then reinstalled. I am leaving it up to him if he wants to remove it or not. Also I removed the auto shifter on the steering column. I have a couple pics and questions to ask you guys. First the other day I posted a thread about the cranks. This is why, the flywheel I purchased up at the Chryslers @ Carlisle show isnt made like the ones in our trucks. Its different. So he is currently looking for one. Next is what to do with the TPS and the wiring? We have a manual ECU and are currently looking for a left engine harness (It has the crank sensor, shutoff switch, water/fuel seper, and then goes down to the tranny and t-case), so we will only have to cut off the two wire plug for the back up lights on the tranny and install the correct one for the NV4500. So does anyone know what I need to do with the TPS? He doesnt mind if its there, I just dont want it to cause any issues! Any helpful advice is appreciated! Thanks everyone, Robert

Thanks bullit, did you change your left engine harness? If not what did you do at the reverse light plug? I know the auto uses a 3 wire pin. I did this to an older truck when I was back in high school. I cut the end off and then put ends on them. One got grounded and the other two (I believe) I put on the two prongs on the tranny! Is that what you did? If so which one did you ground? Do you see why I asked about the cranks? My dad was so mad that he paid almost $60 to have it plained. I was searching online and think its for a 8.3ltr. It fits the crank! Thanks

Looks like you have the older style light weight flywheel with no oil lip on the center section.

IIRC the old or original flywheel has to be machined by a shop to expand the housing in order to fit a pilot bearing in place of the bushing. there is a little bit of an explanation in Quad 4x4 under the "Dodge parts clutch" tab. I did mine with updated parts from SouthBend so I did not have to do the machining.

The pilot bushing goes in the flywheel. The transmission input doesn't go into the cranks on these. But there are two different styles of flywheels. The earlier trucks had the kind you have and the later trucks have a heavier unit with a different center section that has an oil catching "lip" instead of that ramp that goes to the face of the flywheel surface.

Looks like you've already got some of the hard stuff out of the way. For me, getting the pedals out of the donor truck was probably the most fun. I hate being up under the dash like that!
I'm really looking forward to putting the pedals in...I actually ran all of my acc. wires thru where the clutch goes. DOH!

Well guys, today I got the rear main seal replaced, freshly turned flywheel on, brand new Sachs 13" clutch kit installed, bell, nv4500, and T-case on. It started to rain or I would have gotten the 4x4 shifter mounted and adj. Then its simply swap out the factory computer for a 5spd version, then fix the wiring to reflect the new tranny. Then fill with syntorq and gear oil, then drive shafts and the swap will be complete. RAM

Is that a modified getrag 360 bell or a nv4500 bell. It looks like you used the first gen rear engine adapter instead of a second gen. I'm doing the same swap and trying to figure out if I can use the first gen adapter plate with the second gen bellhousing.

I know this is an old thread, but I was doing research on completing my swap. I am almost done, except wiring. I thought I could keep the original ECM that came with the auto, but only had to "trick" the ECM in knowing when truck was in neutral to start. I looked to see what a manual transmission ECM would cost, and a rebuilt is $900.00! I have a 1995 Ram 2500 4x4 swapped to an NV4500. Any help would be appreciated. I'm in over my head!
You DO NOT need to swap PCMs [ECMs didn't come on these trucks till the 24V in '98.5] to do an auto to manual swap.
Just find the Clutch neutral plug in wire to the plug in on the clutch hydros or run a jumper wire to it.

I have a question for freight train, did you not have to change the tunnel? That's the one task that's keeping me from swapping mine
