Clutch Switch

Has anyone disabled the clutch switch? Alot of times mine wont engage and you really have to stomp the pedal to get it too engage the switch.

Re:Clutch Switch

I gave up on mine and installed a push button switch. I had a spare connector and wired it to a momentary on push button switch on the dash. I start the truck as usual but while the clutch is disengaged I push the button while turning the key. The switch cost about $5.00 and about 20 minutes to install.
Bob

Re:Clutch Switch

I pulled the connector off and stuck a female spade terminal over the two pins in the connector (I had to spread the spade connector a little). The truck thinks that the clutch is always depressed, and so far it has worked just fine. I don't know if there is anything extra attached to that signal on later models, though.

Alec

Re:Clutch Switch

Looking under the dash, which connector is it? I couldnt see any wires or connector coming off the back of the clutch, but I may have missed it.

Re:Clutch Switch

I've thought about disabling mine, but I'm afraid I'll fire off the Cummins in gear some morning, half asleep, and drive right through the wall of my pole barn...

Re:Clutch Switch

My clutch switch doesn't work, but I'm more worried about putting the dang thing in first instead of reverse and driving through a storefront or driving over somebody's little car. All the heavy trucks I've driven have reverse there, same with old 3 speed stuff I've had. I have to think about it every time I go for reverse.

Re:Clutch Switch

Monty --
(On my truck) there is a sleeve around the push-rod that runs from the clutch pedal to the clutch master cylinder. The sleeve has the pedal return spring and the kill switch incorporated into it. It has a slot cut out of the side so that it can fit over the pushrod, and one end actually fits into a notch in the pushrod with a white plastic tab that slides in and locks it in place. It has been a little while since I fooled with mine. There is a cable that plugs into a connector on this -- I jumpered the two terminals of the cable together.

I hope this helps, if not, I'll look at the truck again and take some pictures.

Alec
