don't feel bad I have done alot of clutch jobs in my time and if it didn't have a problem I get lazy about checking run out on bell housings and flywheel. did have one bite me along time ago. maybe i should start check them again. lets see 15 min to remember where my dial indicator is or was. 15 min to check and remember what is acceptable on run out. = a good clutch job. just going to have to start again.

You can mount your dial indicator with magnetic base and extension arm to the flywheel and then sweep the face of bellhousing where tranny mounts. This would indicate whether the input shaft, clutch, flywheel and pilot bearing are concentric. Concentric: is that the word I wanted? hmmm, well, don't know so how about 'lined up right'? You can sweep the flywheel by mouning dial indicator to block. If you do both then you'll be pretty sure of what's going on there.

ps: the factory service manual explains it in good detail. I don't have a way to scan the page or I'd send it to you. Maybe some other kind soul can oblige here?
