clank???

When i press in the clutch to shift there is a clank from the drivetrain. after i shift and release the clutch there is another clank. I have checked the driveshaft And there is no play in it and i donot see any obvious damage any where. what can this be

I would have to say that either you have a u-joint that is dry(it may not have any movement side to side but the needle bearings may be missing in a few spots making a noise) or the transmission mount is fubared.
Another thing to ckeck is the slip yoke if it has one. My gasser chevy had rust on the inner part of the yoke where it splined into the transmission output shaft. Every time I put it into gear it sounded just like a loose u-joint. I cleaned it up and greased it good and it has been fine ever since.

I was thinking u-joints or slip splines on the driveshaft itself.

It could also be busted springs in ur clutch plate. But I would check the simple stuff first.
