Right side (passanger) clank
Right side (passanger) clank
Greetings -

Can anyone shed light or identify a right side clank that you can feel thru the floorboard when hitting a bump? I've had two passangers both say they can feel something hit when I turn into a driveway. I run 305/70-16 on 10" rims, but it isn't them hitting. They say it feels hard, like something bumping against the floorboard. I can not identify the source. My suspension is stock.

Thanks in advance.

Re:Right side (passanger) clank
common 'clunks';
1) loose shock bolts or bad shock(s)
2) front antisway bar ends loose
3) tire contact

With your size tires, are you sure you don't have some contact with the fender liner (rear lower corner)? Mine does this, but only when wheels turned a certain angle, and hit a bump at low speed. Just barely hits, can be hard to tell sometimes... Maybe have someone watch from outside the truck when you turn in the drive to check for contact. The front wheels are offset to the rear in the wheel well, so larger tires will often barely hit the liner when wheel turned and suspension compressed.

Regards,
-Scott
Scott -

Thanks for your input, I will check all of your suggestions. My tires do hit as you said, but you can hear that, and its momentary. I had the shocks replaced recently with Bilsteins, I suspect that is where the problem lies. I appreciate your response.

FMF MX,

You're welcome!
May be just a loose shock (hope!). My truck will occasionally make a loud thump noise from down in the floor area, but it only happens when cold (below freezing). It's the cab to frame isolation (rubber) bushings slipping slightly as the frame flexes. Again, it only occurs when crossing a large bump or uneven area sufficient to fully compress the suspension.

Hope it's a simple fix!
-Scott

Shocks may be to short for your new lift. I had that problem. truck rode real ruff. Had to send them back and tell them what to send . Only had 2in. leveling kit. They sent shocks from there book for 2 in. kit. I suggested they do more research and re- do there book. Truck rides good now. 8)

You might look at the tracking bar. They are notorious on the 4x4. Wear point is on the driver side, but it may be felt on the passenger side. Worth looking at.
