Chopping turbo???

I have a 93 1 ton 4X4. And when I am making the boost climb, It sounds like it is chopping the air, it also makes this sound when I'm under boost and just lift off the throttle rapidly. I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out why it does it?

Thanks

you could see if the turbine shaft is loose in the turbo, by wobbling the nut and see if there is any play, it could be the turbine hitting the housing. but i could be wrong also.

It is called turbo bark. That is why they started doing MWE slots on newer turbos, to eliminate this. It is bad on the shaft and inners of the turbo.

What mod's have you done to the truck?

It real shouldn't bark(the chopping you here) under a load? I can see you putting a good load on the eng(causing the turbo to spin up) and then releasing the go peddle abruptly to get that noise................What is different then stock on it?
Do you have a boost and pyro gauge on it?

I have an exhaust brake on it, but it barked before that was installed also,
4" straight pipe to 5" stacks,
16cc turbine housing,
pyro and boost gauges
4" intake with K&N air filter with a filter wrap

I also built my 12V bottom end with a 24V top end.
275 Hp nozzles.
aneroid cranked up

I pull 28 psi boost during just normal driving

Building my twin turbo set up for some more power
Methanol injection is on it's way.

It's surging. Like Randy said, you need a compressor section with MWE. The HTT and Gillett upgrades have MWE.

Too much boost for the airflow through the turbo. MWE will fix it.

It's a slot cut in the inner ring of the compressor housing right by the tips of the compressor. It lets the excess air just circulate instead of backing up and then blowing back through the compressor.

Yes, that is what surging sounds like. My boost gauge was steady when my I had a 12 cm on my old H1C, but you could hear it surging.
