Charging Issue Question
Charging Issue Question
Driving a few weeks ago the alternator overcharged and killed the battery. I bought a new battery and started it up and it was charging way too high at 16 volts. Go to do some testing today and start it up and charging at a good 13.8-13.9 volts. I started messing around with the fusible link wires on the positive terminal and now the alternator will not charge. dropped to 12.9 volts and fell as the engine ran longer. Any ideas on what this could be? It has me stumped.
dude i hear you i cant get my junk to charge either.check to make sure your getting power out the relay in the very front of the line of relays on your driver side fenderwell.its supposed to give power to the field circuit in the alternator which is what i think im having problems with but with the key on you should be getting voltage out of two of the wires coming out of that relay.(red and blue/yellow i think) let me know whats up though.maybe we can have a pity party about our junk
check that plug for the harness that connects to the alternator harness cos mine was hammered and i just put connectors inline and ditched the plug and it worked great til i shorted a **** wire and fried a fuse link
