Alternator/Charging issue
Alternator/Charging issue
Story goes, dead battery 3 times yesterday. The last time it was boiling during jump start. Wouldnt take a charge. They are just over a yr old.
Been getting my abs & brake light to come on intermittently. Been thinking its the alt goinng out (bad diode, means random lights come on right?) and screwing my battery's ability to hold a charge, and the one having a bad cell (no charge, then boiling)
Any ideas? Go for a rebuild kit? EXT regulator?

i was havin' the same problem, it was the batt.. check voltage running, should be in the 13's or 14's. turn off, check again. if batt. are lower than 12v than i would say it's the batt.. but check all conections on the batt. and at the cable ends, starter, ground on block etc. the book says that it should be in the 14's but if they are in the low 13's that is a sign that the charging system is workin' overtime and should be fixed asap or the charging system will fail.
Isolate the batteries from each other and test them. A load test is the best way to condemn them. If one fails, replace them both at the same time. To test the alternator, you need to put a load on it and measure the amount of current it can develop. It sounds to me like a simple battery problem, and the warning lights you have been seeing are a totally unrelated problem.
