can't identify my transfer case

After blowing out my u-joint and having to replace the shaft I noticed that the front out put seal is in bad shape. I went to the parts store and there are two transfer cases for 93 205 and 241. I looked under the truck and can't find a tag to determine what I have. I'm guessing 205 since the seal is more $$$ and has to be ordered. Is there a way to identify it without a tag?

if you cant find the tag I would suggest finding a casting # and checking with you local Dodge dealer to see if they can tell you which one you have. someone here might beable to tell just by looking at it but I can't. Hope this helps you out. Ryan

If it's a big ol chunk of cast iron, it's a 205. 241's have an aluminum case. Did they put the 241 behind a Cummins? I thought they were just for v8 gassers.

Thats what I figured about the transfer cases one diesel and one gas but I wasn't sure. I think its steel/iron something pretty stout. Everywhere I spoke with have 241 parts and no 205.

I am almost 100 percent positive that it is a 205. i dont think that they put 241s behind this year of truck and i do remember that 93 was the last year they used the np205 which is not chain driven like the later model ones..is the 241 tcase a passenger side front diff as the 205 is?

It's gotta be a 205. Try scraping around the PTO cover on the driver's side and see if the tag is just covered with dirt/grime.

I didn't know the 241 was aluminum cased. Every part store in the area has to order the 205 seal so that is a good sign that it is what I have.

Thanks for all the help
