Can I Run Without It

My TPS is shot. I have drove the truck with no overdrive for the year and a half I have had it. Can I just take it off the pump and run without it. I don't see what it will hurt, but wanted to ask and make sure. Thanks, Bill

with or without if it is bad you still wont have overdrive. you can put a toggle switch on the od wire to ground at the trans. will need to remember to turn it off when you stop. with switch on the trans will skip 3rd gear on hard acceleration.

You can not take it out completely, but you can fix it at a permanent position. I removed the stub (underneath) and cut a stainless piece of sheet metal to fit on the bottom with two holes for the bolts to go through. I cut a small tab and bent it up to fix the potentiometer voltage for 1.3 volts with will cause the 3 to 4 shift at 35 mph regardless of throttle. You need a voltmeter. I have been running this way for 11 of the 12 years on my 91 W250. Has cut shifting and wear by factor of 75%. 235,000 km and no problems. I can mash the pedal and it stays in 4th. The torque converter is so mushy and loose it has lots of torque multiplication such that I rarely have to push dash OD OFF button. Use dash button on hills if you are towing, since there is lots of heat generated under high slippage.
