TPS Question
TPS Question
I took my TPS, that is bad off today. I took a couple pics of it. Is it suppose to come apart like this? If so then what do you take apart to try and clean it? Thanks, Bill

I took my TPS off today that is bad and I took a couple pics of it. Is it suppose to come apart like this? If so where is the other part that you can take apart that everyone talks about? Thanks, Bill

<img src=

Re:TPS Question
The bolt part usualy stays on the throttle body with some lock tite or such, but is removable. If you screw the bolt in/out it will change the 3-4 and 4-3 shift points, and also tranny pressure at rest. But that is how the tps looks when removed. Take some contact cleaner and spray in the tps, twist the **** on tps a couple of times to clean it. Test the tps with a voltmeter to see if that fixed it. Save yourself $$$, did the same with my tps and haven't had a prob in 4 months. Good luck.
Re:TPS Question
Ummmm, if I can jump in here.. maybe I missunderstood your post soundfetish... but the bolt itself should not come out, or be taken out of it's little plastic holder. Don't turn it unless it's loose, in which case you want to count the turns out, clean it, and resnug it up. It is the bolt head that is turned by the 'socket' end connected to the throttle linkage. (does that make sense?) You need to make sure that the plastic 'tang' on the bottom fits the slot on the underside of the TPS properly AND also the hex head bolt goes back in the same way it came out of the 'socket' end.

Bob.
Re:TPS Question
Farmall,
I replied on you other thread on how to bypass this beast. Gave me lots of trouble when 1.5 years old. Replaced my 1991 W250 VE44 pump on safety recall in 1996 and dealer replaced stub. I took it right back out and bypassed it again, since I did not like the excessive shifting of gears. I would do the same thing to my 1997, but the lock-up torque converter may not like it, so I have not tried. You can clean the TPS by drilling a small hole in top and spraying in contact cleaner but be carefull not to damage mechanicals. A Dremel tool might take the glued on lid off easily and then just use silicone seal. That is if you want to keep it. Good luck, let me know how it worked out. I have not been back to a dealer since 1996 when warranty expired.
