Can the computer be junk???
It seems like the computer in my dodge might be junk. Does the tach sensor go through the computer? I've had to wire the grid heater, a voltage regulator for charging, and the cc doesn't work. I'm wondering if I should buy a new computer and see if this fixes the problems.
If you have all the other bypasses, get the magnetic pickup for the tach that was used on the 89-91s. Bad thing is, you now have a tach adaptor you dont need. Good news is, you can save $400 for something that may or may not last very long.
But, yes, to answer your question, the PCM CAN be junk. It is becoming more and more common. Face it, most 15-19 year old vehicles find their way to the junkyard for something of this nature. Most 18yr-old vehicles arent worth the $400 for a new computer, though.

i think mine crapped out too,no grids,no charge, some cruise.went manual grids,v. reg. and now the cruise works after the truck warms up and the ck eng lite comes on,this trucks like an contankous old man,but i love it!total cost..17.00
Ya, before I bought the truck I thought they had a very limited number of electronic things on them but I guess I was wrong. Now that I have everything hooked up manually, besides the cruise control (which I wouldn't use very often) I just ordered a crankshaft speed sensor from ISSPRO that I will just slap next to the crank pulley and run the wires to the cab. The sensor is cheaper than a $150-$300 computer. Thanks for the responses. Kevin
