A/C temp cycling switch?

I have a new switch for my 91.5. To put the new switch on will I have to remove the freon, or is it just a bolt on?

Thanks, Tony

The sensing probe just slides in the tube.

Let us know how it goes.. tight amount of room there. PM me and I can make some suggestions if you have to break into the system.

is this the temp switch or the low pressure(cycling) switch. the low pressure switch screws into the side of the expansion valve. removing it will empty the system in short order. the temp switch just slides into the tube on the liquid line. no loss of freon in removal as suggested. might want to make sure which you need.

I've began installing the temp cycling switch. The probe that you slide into the tube....is about an 1" to 2" too long. What I mean is....there is that amount of the copper probe still showing even though I've pushed the probe as far as it will go. ? What do I need to do? cut it off, wrap it with tape of some sort?

Thanks, Tony

Do not cut the probe. have you checked to see that there is nothing in the hole. If its ok and thats how the tube sits it should be ok just as long as its secured in place.

There is nothing blocking the hole. The probe is 5.25" long, and it slides into the hole 4" leaving 1.25" not sliding into the hole. I was just wondering if that 1.25" of copper needs to be covered with something?

Thanks, Tony

Hello everyone. I got the temp cycling switch installed, and took the truck for a spin. The temps never get down below 50 deg. and it will cycle off and not come back on....for 5 or so miles.....if it comes back on at all! So I did some searching on the forum. I checked the low pressure switch by jumping the switch. The compressor will kick on every time! Is my problem the LP switch?

Thanks for all your help, Tony

Sounds like the system is low on refrigerant. What are the pressures?

Not sure what the pressures are....I'll check them and get back with you.

I tried that....problem is where I'm at there is too much humidity, and it freezes up.

I went and bought one of the cheaper gauges to check the pressures with. I had to jump the low pressure connector to get the compressor to kick in. The ambient temp is about 80 deg. The gauge says the low pressure at this temp should be between 40 to 50 psi. At 85 deg it should be 50 to 55 psi. Mine is reading at 35 psi.

So it looks like my A/C is slightly low on freon....but is it enough to keep the compressor from kicking on, or is it the low pressure switch that is faulty?

Thanks, Tony
