broke studs that hold turbo on, and got ?

Well today I thought felt like a good day to take off the exhaust manifold n replace the gaskets in there, well in the process of taking the turbo off for easier access, I eneded up snapping the bottom two studs off the exhaust manifold that holds the bottom side of the turbo on, well wat I was hoping would work didn't work. I was hopin to heat it up some with a torch n use vice grips n screw em out, but they wouldn't nugde one bit! Don't those to bottom one screw out like the tops two did? Any advice would be awesome thanxz dan

PENETRATING OIL!

Let it sit for a few hours then put some heat on it again. Get it good and hot then whack the vise grips with a hammer.

I had a stud break off on my slant six. rear most manifold stud. Had penetrating oil on it, but it was no match for 300,000 miles and some rust. Tried everything I could think of including vice grips. Vice grips were just tearing it up and only 1/4 inch was sticking out. May sound silly, but I used a small pipe wrench on it and it finally broke free.

If you have a welder, You can slip a nut over the stud that is sticking out & weld the nut to the stud. Now you can put a socket on it & try to remove it.

I agree with Jungle. If all else fails and you have to drill it out find a source for left twist drill bits, grind the stud smooth if posible and center punch it. Alot of times the left twist drill bit will bind up and screw out the stud/broken bolt. I hate it when this happens but Murphys law normally does his thing and bad happens. Good luck with it--patience is the key--when you get so upset with it walk away and regain your composer and start again.

Give up and get an ATS or HTT 3-piece manifold.

I've had good success doing this with the liberal application of bee's wax after the welding is done. the bee's wax works into the threads and helps loosen them.

Your welcome!!
I'm new to DTR but have been on Ramchargercentral.com for years. I just bought the 92 CTD to put into my Ramcharger DD so I'm over here learning more about the CTD.

There have been several reports of these 3 piece manifolds cracking. Now that they've been out for many years, I suspect there will be more showing up! I would get a new stock manifold, can be had for 100-150 I think, and have it thermal coated on the inside.
