Belt Squeal

Hey all, my belt squeals like crazy. I put lube on it to make sure that it was indeed the belt. Soon as the lube hit the belt it went away.

New belt tensioner (Gates (china)) so I don't think it would be that. The belt is really tight. Should I buy a new belt?

It was just a crappy V-belt but it never made that noise before. I had to swap it because my cummins tensioner went bad. Thinking I should have went cummins on that part..

V belts, including the serpentine multi-v belts, work well because of the angle of the sides. Belt tension is multiplied by the inclined plane of the sides, greatly increasing the traction of the belt.

When the pulleys wear to the point that the belt is riding on the bottom of the grooves, either the pulley or the belt, that traction greatly diminishes, and the belt slips.

I have seen perfectly good alternators fail to put out because the pulley was worn and the belt couldn't get traction.

Look at the pulleys. Neither the top's between the grooves, or the bottom of the grooves should be shiny. If they are, it's worn out.

I had the same problem, changed the 1 year old belt.
There is a heavy duty version available, I think it was a Gates
It is green colored. My squeek seems to have gone away.

I got the HD green one from genos garage and it came with a little plastic depth gauge to check the wear on the groves inside the belt. My squeak went away with green belt.
