bed cracking
bed cracking
The front of the bed of my D250 is cracking right where the front of the bed wraps around to the side of the bed. It's cracking right at that hard break in the sheet metal all the way downward. It was like this when I bought it. It had a tool box on it and I'm guessing maybe the previous owner overloaded the tool box and the bed was cracking and this just accelerated it. Any ideas on that?
mine just cracked and its brand new. check around the corner for a small dent or large dent where something may have slllliiid into it and banged the corner real hard... thats what cracked mine.

Ever haul a slide in camper?
If you do and use the little plates on the front of the bed for the front tiedowns that'll do it. Much better to get a bar tha attaches to the frame to hold the camper in.

Before my old 93 had the flatbed it was cracked the same, but it always hauled way to heavy and had a goose in tow most every day, so I figured that was the reason. My "new" single cab is doing well.....so far.
I also noticed these trucks like to crack on the back of the cab, each one of mine have done it, some all the way up, some just started before I "fixed" it. I'm sure this has to do with body mount sagg.

Some of those tool boxes had long mounting bolts that went down and attached to the frame. I have one here just like that. What it does is it holds the front section of the bed floor rigid with the frame while the rest of the bed body flexes. The weakest high loading point during the flexing is what usually breaks.
Mine had cracked downwards about 12 inches. I stripped off the paint around it and welded it all back up and smoothed it out. It's not perfect, but I'm not using this truck for show, but to haul the kids around and get better mileage than my 302. I had a pretty busy/productive day and got some stuff done on my cummins.

Well, I got the bed all welded up and ground down. I got the headache rack and tool box mounted and I even had time to build me the little idle adjustment bracket from the sticky. It seems a previous owner already knew about the fuel screw as it is fully adjusted to the collar. I'll be ordering a new one without the collar after I get paid in a week and then cranking it up some more.
