Yeah, I wouldn't count on the job being all a 1 man job. Just doesn't seem realistic to me...but take that with a grain of salt...I've only done it twice.

Seva,
Sorry to hear about the getrag, I remember you saying the tranny seemed a little slow to shift.
I have used the ATV / motorcycle jack many times for 4x4 trannies with the NP-205 still on.
I got my jack at Sears for under $150
I have to jack up the passenger side [ no gas tank in the way] of the truck to slide the ATV jack and the tranny under the frame rail as the bell and shifter stick up so high.
2 people would be pretty nice but I think you got make it happen.
Good luck on an easy install.

I just rebuilt and installed mine a few months ago. I had a lift, garage, and a friend. It still took us three hours to do. Also you are going to need two jacks. One for the tranny and one for the motor. The tranny holds the rear of the motor so you will need something to hold it up when the tranny is out. the extra jack also helps when installing the new tranny in lining up the input shaft to the clutch. I would definitely pull the transfer case separate from the tranny, that's a lot of steel to be moving even with two people.
Sdseva its to bad your not in Keene, I am headed to my place in Barton VT this weekend and I'm going right by Keene on I91. I would have gladly helped you. Its much easier to R&R with two!!!

ya, working on a hilly streeet and traffick whizzin by, not good. I just ordered a tranny form the guy in indy. I bought another tranny lst weekend, unknown condition, and the synchros are out of it.

2 jacks, 1 person , and soemone else to work the jack. I dont know or think I could have put the transfercase in by myself, everything else I did myself. Got it down now to about 4 hours. 500 isnt bad if since you dont have all the equip there to do it.

Going to have to do it again here in a few weeks, or whenever it shows up

use some 1/2 inch bolts 2 or 3 inches in length, with the heads removed or threadall, to align and guide the trans to the bell housing

I have found that the engineers at Dodge designed the bolts of the transmission to be just long enough, so that they will not begin threading in until the input shaft has begun entering the pilot bearing. It is a great safety device to prevent trying to join a cocked tranny to the bh. I say again, after 3 times doing it by myself (besides the shifter), that a motorcycle jack, on casters, is the way to go IMHO Mark

There was an extremely negative post on another forum about Cincinnatti a couple of weeks ago. But there was someone who recommended the White Castle, (I think) for good burgers. Don't ask me where it is though. Try googlemaps or some such. Sorry about your tranny, but I think $500 sounds pretty darned cheap.

I have a friend that used to say that White Castle was the best burger on earth, so when he went back to St. Louis, he brought be one. I tried not to laugh at this tiny, dried out I don't know what, but I did anyway. I think that if White Castle is the tall, Cincinnati is living down to it's reputation. I googled what to do in Cinci the other day and came up with a couple of museums, Vegas it's not, Again in my humble opinion Mark

I bought one form them a few days ago. Got it installed today (3 hour job) and all is well. Shift is good, all new bearing, synchros, main shaft etc. They also replaced (it looked lkie all , but am unsure) shift forks. So far , so good.

I had a buddy on mine pick it up on his way back thru Indy, he was impressed with the owner and his shop.

Done it a few times always by myself, it is not hard (not on My ford) but as mentioned You have to line it just right to get it in the brass bushing.
