Banks intercooler swap
Banks intercooler swap
After an hour of searching intercoolers, I am still wondering this. My 91.5 has a banks intercooler + guages. The 93 I just bought is stock intercooled. Is it worth my time and/or possible to swap the intercooler out of the 93 with the banks? Any pitfalls?
Eventually (soon) I will be selling the 91.5. Should I leave it for value or is it worth more in the the increased performance in the 93? Thoughts?
Much appreciated.
By the way thanks for the replies on the "Might by a 93" thread. Very happy with the purchase, now its time to play a little.

The Banks cooler I know of for our firstgens is a downer. PM RichieO and ask him about his BANKS. He was seeing a max of 20PSI or somthing of that nature and now with his PSD IC he was hitting 30's I think. It was a real bottle neck. does your 91 have OD? Just wondering cause I have only seen the Banks coolers in Non IC'd trucks.

Anyway, from your comments I will probably leave it as a selling point and look at some of the other options. I miss the gauges on the 93, so I'll have to get on this.
Thanks.
Swap all your gauges onto the 93. Most people looking for a diesel truck don't have a clue what those gauges even mean. I would use everything you can off the 91 to make the 93 what you want it to be. More than likley it won't effect what you get out of it anyhow.
Here is a pic of my Banks cooler. It was an aftermarket kit for the non i/c trucks. They also had a replacement cooler for the 91.5 up 1st gen that was an upgrade from stock. ( so im told ). Astated above it was a great unit compared to not having one,,, but as the fuel screw was turned up the flow bacame a problem ( at least with mine ). I had 22 pounds and out of control egt's. I put a pipe in place of the cooler and tried it with same settings and got a very hot 32 pounds of boost. Cooler had no leaks. It just would not flow the high cfm's I was throwing at it. I replaced with a power stoke unit and also upgraded to a basic S300 and a Stans kit while I was there.

BANKS INTAKE PIPE

THEN CHANGED TO THIS

If it is a banks it should have the same tube grill as mine does. That was part of the kit.

No, that is not an upgrade for a stock intercooler.
The Banks upgrade intercooler looks just like a stock intercooler, but it is thicker. The outlets are about half way up the tanks & point straight back from them just like stock.
That looks like some sort of add on unit for a non ic truck.
