band adjustment woes

So we adjusted the bands in the trans on my dads truck(91.5 W250) 72 in lbs. Then back off the proper amount of turns per the sticky. Then also adjusted the line pressure up 1.5 turns on the screw and shift point approx. 3/4 turn on the screw. Then I also adjusted the kickdown per the sticky.
Now he says the truck takes extra long to engage in drive after its been sitting for awhile. Like first thing in the morning.
1. When aadjusting the bands ,after you reach the 72 in lbs. And then you are supposed to back off 2 turns, that is 720 degrees of rotation correct?
2. My dads truck has 194,xxx miles on it and he just bought it 2 years ago. With it came a reciept for a "brand new" trans at 134,xxx installed in 2001 by Marietta Dodge in Georgia. This trans did not have the same adjustment fitting for the band on the exterior as my 93 or the sticky(his was a T-40 Torx bit). The internal band adjustment was a different style lever and the adjusting bolt was a 1/4 inch hex fitting with a 9/16 jam nut where as my 93 is the 5/16 8 point adjusting bolt with a 11/16jam nut.
Could this make for a different adjusting technique? What would cause this delay in engagment? Thanx DTR

Torque converter drain back most likely. Tell him to put it in neutral after he starts it for maybe, 10 seconds. If he puts it in drive after that and there is no hesitation, it's normal torque converter drain back. The torque converter does not fill in Park, but does in gear or neutral. This is a common issue with older 727's and 518's due to a seal leaking the fluid out of the torque converter when the truck is shut off.

It MAY have come from turning up the line pressure? I'm not sure. He's sure it never did this before the turn up?

Like I said, it's not a catastrophic issue, it's a common, no big deal issue.

Shift kits usually have the added bonus of making the torque converter fill in Park along with firmer shifts.
