Anyone put a 5" tailpipe on a first gen?

I'm looking for a 5" tailpipe, not just the tip, it has to go all the way over the axle. I'm going to do a 4" downpipe, and 4" past the transfercase, 5" after that. Anyone try a 2nd gen tailpipe? Thanks

1stgen545 has 5" turbo back ! He had a bunch of big truck exhaust pieces that he welded together to make it. Looks good, sounds better!!

Until the weld rusted a little I had people thinking it was mandrel bent. The 2nd and 3rd are of my 5" MBRP for ny 2nd Gen. We used a 4" MBRP tail pipe from a F450 (has the huge rear fuel tank so you have to exit in front of the axle) kit on DennyT's 1stGen and with a little mod it looked like it came on the truck.

I have a second gen 4" muffler back with a 5" miter cut tip. It comes real close to the rear shock (sometimes hit) but it fit. Sound pretty deep

Hope this helps,
Michael

Stomp made over 600hp with 4" exhaust. 4" looks fine and is plenty. Save your time and money.

That's good to know Bill. So if I go to twins and shrink the BHT3B outlet down to 4" after the turbo outlet, I'll be fine with that?

IMO, if you're trying to make 800hp, then maybe no. For us 1st genners, I'd say it's ok. Some twin builders will disagree and say it's not ok. I know Stomp made good power with his necked down from 5" to 4" directly out the big charger. This is how I want mine. I'm not going outside the frame rail or removing any of my transmission mount to get 5" past the t-case. 5" flex will fit, but it sure will rub and or vibrate to beat hell. On a 2wd it's no problem, you can have 5" charger back.

As with a lot of things, its not an issue with needing it, I just want it . Seriously though I've heard 4" is a restriction after 500 hp, that number has been mentioned a time or two regarding second gen trucks. Plus a friend of mine has a 5" exhaust on his powerstroke, I can't let him have a bigger exhaust than me .

I bought a 5" Bully Dog kit for a 6.0l powerstroke and it fit my 1st gen almost perfect. I just needed to fab up a down pipe. I used 2 4" 90's and about a 20" section of straight 4". Already had a 4" flange for the new turbo so it was a snap. On the actual 6.0l ford I did we even used a polished 6" rolled tip!!! Looks like a sewer pipe.
