Anyone with the OD tool

I'm looking at building the tool to compress the overdrive spring. well one thats safer than what i have. I just have three pieces of metal welded together to compress it. what i'd like to know is the out side and inside diamerter of the tool and the hight. also would like to know if the tool is tall enough to compress it using the intermediat shaft instead of the alignment tool. if its unclear i'll try to make it more clear. Thanks.

Here's pictures with some dimesions from Mcmopar's gallery. This particular tool is not long enough to compress with the intermediate shaft in place. Don't know the ID, the OD is 4", but you can measure the ID off the overdrive unit.

thanks from the picture it looks like ID is about 4.5"-3". Do you know how long it would have to be inorder to compress it with the intermediate shaft inplace? 10" if i had to guess. Don't remember what our tool measured. I'll call dad and see if he can measure but this will get me started thanks.

Depending on your press you can try the trick I use. I don't have an alignment tool and I don't have a intermediate shaft cut down.

I use the intermediate shaft to line up the splines on the press right before I compress it and put the snap rings in. Then I flip it upside down and compress the spring slightly and insert the intermediate shaft in to realign the splines and release the press while its in there then remove it after I take it off the press.

Well there is one. And that spring has 800lbs of pressure behind it IIRC.
