ANOTHER cruise control question!

OK; I've read every cruise control thread and am still stumped. My cruise control worked great, but the right set of buttons were broken and hanging from the wheel. So I sprung for new buttons from the dealer, and now my cruise doesn't work at all. I checked the fuse, and the brake switch and they're A-OK. Next I pulled the clockspring, disassembled it and found it to be in perfect condition with continuity between all four sets of contacts. Cruise still doesn't work. So I hot wired the Y/R wire under the steering wheel and heard the relay click under the hood. Took it for a drive, and STILL no cruise control! ?????????

From what you say sounds like you got bad set of switches. Somewhere in here is the method to check the switches. If you can't find it I will look it up and post it. Just my two cents, Mike.

I would test the switches even new parts can be bad sometimes.

The set/decel switch is a normally closed momentary contact switch. If it were open, the whole system would be deader than a doorpost.

I tested the switches and they work properly. I'm wondering about the wires running down the steering column now...

Have you checked the connections under the horn pad? It is real easy to pinch a wire.

Make sure you are getting vacuum to the servo.

Turns out my suspicions were well-founded. Took the clock spring out, disassembled it, examined it, reassembled it, put it back in, put the steering wheel back on, and now everything works fine. Must have been a film of corrosion on the contacts where the clockspring plugs into the steering wheel connector!

worked fine for most of a 1500 mile trip. Now it's quit again.
vacuum - good
clockspring - good
ECU- good
switches - good
fuse - good

About the only thing left is the servo. How can I test the servo? I'm assuming it is not serviceable...
