annddd she dies.

well i went and picked up the trailer to go tow a car, and im comming up a slight hill accelerating and it begins to sputter and catch on then rev high and then low and then wont rev past a certain limit at all, then i make it through the lights and across the bridge and began going down the other side of the hill and it just quit completely, and then i costed it into a parking lot fired it up but i can rev it in neutral no problem, then i drop it in gear and do a boost build up and it dosent get any boost and sputters and dies, i checked all intercooler boots, there all good, and then i drove off to the shop i work at and parked it in the back because it will not rev smooth or anything, could this be a lift pump or injection pump? when i pump the injection pump, there is no force in it at all like it's trying to suck fuel. when it runs and idels fine i cracked the injectors and have a good squirt of fuel there, im stumped also i have a quarter tank. thanks for any help.
Gregg

Sounds to me like it's starving for fuel. Might be a plugged filter, but I'd put a pressure gauge on it and see if the lift pump is making any pressure. If the lift pump still has black paint on it, it's original, and it's probably worth throwing a new one at it even if it's not the current problem.

Also check the electrical connection to the shutoff solenoid and make sure it's good. I've seen many a spade terminal cause problems on those.

Its probably higher pressure like the 2nd gen's, as I believe the 8L only came p-pumped, so it would work if you used a bypass regulator.

Sounds like your fuel filter is clogged. Try changing it out and see how it does. Even if your LP is bad the IP should pull enough fuel itself to at least keep running.

it will run untill the pump decides tro freeze up.. this usually happens about 30 miles after the lift pump is done... if it were me i woyuld test the lift pump check all my lines and change the Fuel filter, if everything there looks ok then time to look for an IP

The best suggestion I've heard so far.

yeah the filter had dirt in it, i need to get a new one but the gusy at the shop i work at are gonna bring it in tomorrww morning and look into it for me, i think it's the lift pump but they think it's my injection pump, and they alos think ti may be electrical but i said there isent any electrical to the pump excpet for tps and fuel shutoff and it runs with both disconnected but they still dont believe me so they will see tomorrow i guess. i got a lift pump on order anyway. and it will run just very sputtery and idles down low, and when i go in and floor it it will catch and then idle up and back down, ill put the lift pump in and see anyway before i go for the expensive choice.
