Alternator issue

So lately I have been having issues with the battery going dead, you can boost it and it would start. Until the other day when it was running and then quit. It's never died on me before. Would the alternator be the blame here?

you need a volt meter to read battery volts sitting at 12, then running up to 14.5 dc

The battery has been checked and is fine. This is why I believe I need an alternator

Did they test it under load? My battery would charge, show 13+ volts, then drop to 4 volts when I went to start it. As stated above, it is pretty easy to see if the alternator is working. When running with a good battery you should see 13.5 volts, at least, at the battery. Mine had an intermittent no start condition, it would crank fine, but not have enough to put 12 volts to the fss. I put in a new diehard and haven't had a problem since...Mark

Testing the system is fairly simple, but needs a couple of instruments. Anybody that would sell you parts, like clown auto, will usually test it for free.

Tests needed to determine condition include
battery voltage,
battery load test (voltage at 135 amps draw or so)
engine running battery voltage
alternator current
alternator field voltage

They're all inter related. Come back with numbers for a definitive answer.

The fastest and least expensive path to a repair is proper diagnostics.
