Air ride

I have bin working on a 85 d350 crew cab that one of these days is going to be getting my 92's cummins drive line. Any way I want the truck to have air ride all around I got the back end almost done. It is kind of a copy of the road tamer stuff. I still need to make a track bar and some stops so it will not over extend but its getting there.

Looks like good stuff.

I would like to know how well they work. I'm going to build an air ride setup for my 85 crew cab, but I'm not sure wether to to something like what your doing or some like a kendlerman.

I made the front bushing out of bronze with a grease fitting it is real tight side to side now but I plan on putting a track bar going side to side parael with the rear its also going to get a goose neck hitch under the bed so i have to make sure its all not going to crash into each other hopefully it will be done this weekend so i can start makeing the front stuff

That looks like the Hendrickson suspension that's on my Western Star truck. Yours looks good, you did a good job setting it up. Find a dog bone style track bar off of a 2 1/2 ton airride setup, shorten it and it will last 7 to 800,000 miles. Good luck, looks good, great job.

I have been thinking about doing the same thing on my crew. A couple of questions: What size airbag are you using and where did u buy them?

Thanks

I have a question. If you have very tight brass bushings in the front hinge, how will the axle move and articulate if you drive over a bump or drop one wheel in a hole? Are you setting the rear end solid like a big hinge? If you get enough weight on it, something has to move or bend. What am I missing here? Looks nice otherwise!

I'm not 100% sure what the bags are from they where a ebay special my guess is some kind of medium duty chasse like a box truck they are 8 inches across and all the big truck stuff that i've seen have bin around 10 any ladder bar set up dosn't articulate to much if you need alot of movement you have to go with a 3 or 4 link

I have a tank and 12 v pump the back has a leveling valve so its always at the same hight no mater how much weight is in the bed and a dump valve for hooking up trailers and loading the front is going to have just a presure regulator and I think I could just set it once I want it mainly to try and make the truck ride nicer I know how much of a diferance it makes in a big truck to have bags over springs hopefully it will not be a waste of time

Are you going to gusset those shock mounts some? And maybe put the lower mount bolt in double shear?

No Frills,Every thing looks great! That should ride sweet when you're done.I have one question! Are the bags on the front the same size as the rear? Would the air bag set up most guys put on the rear work also? They are smaller in diameter and height. Did you consider those at first? You have got me wondering now that I see someone has tried this. I thought about doing the fronts but didn't think it was possible. Keep us posted. I am tearing my 85 crew down and doing a reconversion and my front end needs lots of attention.

If you let all the air out of the bags will it put the suspension lower and give it the lowrider look?
