Aftermarket Cruise Control

I bought an Audiovox CC-100 Cruise unit to go on my 89 Cummins and have yet to get it to work. It is supposed to be a universal kit but I can't get this one to work. I don't have the tach wire hooked up because I don't know where the tach hook-up is on these trucks. Is it on the alternator? Anyone suggestions? Thanks!

89 doesn't have a tach hookup, in 91.5 when they went to intercooled they put a crank sensor on the front for the tach.

My 91.5 does not have the crank sensor, or wiring for the tach, etc., and uses the older computer (though it does have the new style KSB). The newer computer with built in voltage regulator etc. that uses the crank sensor came out in '92.

Regardless, if the tach feed on the cruise kit is designed to work off of the alternator output from a coil, it won't work on any of the diesel tach options: neither the inductive trigger (crank position sensor running off notches in the front damper) or alternator tap. I am not familiar with those kits, however.

Did anyone ever figure this out? I have cruise control on my 89' and I'm sure i could take a look at how its hooked up if your still trying to figure it out.

I don't know about the older trucks, but in the 91-93 trucks the computer takes care of all the cruise functions. It uses the vehicle speed sensor for it's input. I don't think it cares about the RPM because the engine is governed by the pump.

Some digging shows a 88-90 factory cruise servo for "all models" for around $70. Maybe somebody with a manual can take a look and see what's involved electrical wise.
