I need cruise for my truck, and from what I was told here any aftermarket kind will work (doesn't need to be a "diesel" cruise control), but is there any brand that's particularly good? I had an old RV once with aftermarket cruise and it was really terrible, so I'm wary of just ordering whatever JC Whitney has.

Scrounge the 'used parts' yards...
Just about any Chrysler CC will work.
Should be a breeze to install ---

I installed one from a 67 New Yorker in my '81 gasser...
Thought I'd broken something in the speedo after the install. I set the cruise to 70 and the speedo didn't fluctuate at all. The newer ones move a little because the CC isn't as quick to respond to speed changes.

 

I think you will have some problems as most CC use vacuum that your Cummins doesn't have. I think it will have to work thru the ECU or something simular.

 

It has a vacuum pump, probably works better than just engine vacuum too

 

Definitley steadier
