aftercooler plumbing?

Hi Guys,

I have an aftercooler installed on an 91 engine thats going into my 79 dump.
My question is how do you run the plumbing lines to the aftercooler? I assume one goes to the block and one goes in or out of the head? any one have any pics of this?? thanks for the help.

I am going to guess that your talking about an air to water aftercooler? If that is the case I would think you could plumb one or both of them into the heater lines, or on my truck their is a threaded plug in the top of the thermostat housing that if your engine has I'm sure you could thread in a fitting of some kind that you could put a hose on.

yes its an air to water aftercooler. plumbing into the heater lines probably would work, just wondered where it would be plumbed in a factory application. thanks

It's usually plumbed parallel to the heater core. Put the heater core on the ell and the aftercooler on the run of the tee so the aftercooler gets priority flow.

If the Ford does not have a heater shut off valve, you could plumb it in series for better flow through the aftercooler. If you do it this way, run the coolant through the heater first, that will get the coolant as cool as possible before it hits the aftercooler.
