Doesn't matter which way. Sounds like you need a 60 psi boost gauge .

Now you just need some POD's.

I cant wait to see what kind of boost and power your putting out since you have the very setup i want.

If you see the boost going over 40 psi on a regular basis, advance the pump timing if you haven't done that already. If that doesn't get you under 40 psi, you should consider a wastegated turbine housing.

running at 40psi on occation is safe right? Maybe not all day and night, but once every day or two when you hammer it should be fine, and make more power....????

I bet the throttle response must be insane.

The Holset turbos have an annoying habit of exploding if you run them too fast. Over 40 psi is too fast. You can get away with it a few times, but it's like playing with a rattlesnake. Mine survived 50 psi for a few seconds back when I was running a 16 cm housing.

But its an upgraded HTT wheel, so it shouldnt explode right?

I'm starting to get the idea POD's and a 16cm housing arent a good idea.

It's a Holset wheel and housing. The housing has been machined to fit a wheel that was never intended to be in there. HTT told me to keep it under 40 psi.

If you have all the pump tweaks done and add POD's, the 16 cm housing is too small to keep the turbo speed in a reasonable range. My 14 cm wastegated seems to be working pretty well, but I can still get it too hot if I try. With the water/meth it does very well.

If you're good with fab work an external wastegate can be welded to the manifold, a few 2nd gen guys have done that.

I do have an extra 40mm WG with an 18lb spring. So i could regulate it at 36psi. That may work out perfect. I guess I could just dump the extra exhaust out the front fender well. I just dont know about cutting into that old manifold and welding to it.

So technically with a 40mm WG on the exhaust i could get away with a 14cm easily. Especially with such a large WG.

If you're going to run a 40 mm WG, a 12 cm housing would be OK. Those are cheap or free, you have to fork over real money for even a non WG 14 cm.

The guys who have done it ran the WG exhaust into the downpipe. I've also seen setups where they just dump the WG exhaust under the hood.

I would at least run it out the fender. Under the hood is just nasty and messy. As little as i will be running over 35psi it should be fine, and not soot up the fender well too much.

Any leads on where i can get one of those free or cheap 12cm housings?
