to adjust bands or not

should i adjust the bands in my transmission. the reason i ask is because i know nothing about what p/o has done to it over the years. I dont know if it original (doubt it) or when it was rebuilt. It shifts o.k. but it has very soft shifts. Will i hurt it if i try to adjust them now or should I do as my father taught and let sleeping transmissions lie.

I adjusted mine while installing a shift kit. The kit and adjustment seemed to help, but the mushy T/C is the real culprit. I have a Hughes T/C waiting to go in if Seattle doesn't wash away first.
