Adding an External Voltage Regulator for my 92

I'm trying to add an external voltage regulator to my 92 dodge w/ cumins. I also have an 89 dodge and looked how that one was setup.... and then looked at the sticky here:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...n&onlynewfaq=1

On my 89 dodge, I have a green and blue wire coming from the alternator and then into the voltage regulator.... and I also see that I have a green and blue wire coming from my 92's alternator from the same location.

On the 92, can I just mount a voltage regulator, and have the green and blue wires connect to the pigtail that plugs into the regulator instead just like on the 89? Only that?

What is confusing me is that on the diagram on the sticky.... it shows two wires going into the regulator... but then an additional one that goes off into the "Ignition source". Will I need to run an additional wire to the "ignition source" from that location? Is the "Ignition source" just the battery? Or something else...

I thought only the green and blue wire were the only ones I had to worry about from what I could see in comparing the two trucks... but the sticky's diagram confuses me. Could someone clarify this for me? Thanks!

You need the switched ignition wire.
