local trans supplier we get parts from happened to have one. i will make it work just so i have the truck up and mobile again for the time being. if it doesn't fit at first, i'll make it fit with a torch.

How are they different? Just curious.

Seems that if it fits the hole in the case, fine. Is the tube/dipstick length different?

Oh, please don't do that..... that would be such a waste for you to "torch" your truck, as I'm sure someone would want to buy it from you.....

only thing i've torched on the truck are the bushings in the frame for the front leaf springs to replace them lol. *torch to the dipstick tube. and yes i believe length and bends are different, longer on ours i believe. i will make mine fit out of necessity, after all, she is the mother of invention. or so my father says

Really, what's the difference? Have you used one on a 518 to know they are different? Mine worked just fine on my 518.

Don't worry zack he has to be right cause he knows everything. The dipstick in my trans came out of a 99 half ton gasser and it reads right.

yes a correct part is always helpful but when you cant get one this is what I have done for a custom car I worked on
1 drain transmission
2 fill with pre measured amount of fluid for accuracy
3 attach any type of tube /rubber hose etc
4 place metal rod down tube create handle at top
5 place in neutral observe cold fluid level on rod and file mark on rod and one lower by one half inch
6 drive 1 hour re measure and remark hot level

a short clear tube works well some times as you never have to actually use a stick just marks on the outside of the tube so I can hide the filler where ever I want even under the frame

this is just my two cents worth hope it helps

the dipstick fits the hole and reads the level but does not fit correctly to the bellhousing and put the dipstick in the corrct location.

id bet its because the 47rh trans is 1.5" longer due to the thicker adapter caused by the lock-up converter.

if you want to bent/adapt then so be it.
i dont roll like that

If a guy can't find the tube for a 518 then a few mins if tweaking and redesigning does not sound Like to bad of an option.

If you dont like tweaking and thinking out side the box you might as well sell your truck or park it so nothing breaks because OEM parts are becoming hard to find.

My cold-air-intake can hold more soup than y'alls ever will. So there.

Really?

Folks, We're talking about repairing/replacing dip-stick tubes for our trans. If you're gonna contribute, kindly present your information in a useful manner, what worked, and what didn't . . . and why. If you've nothing nice to say . . . . well . . . . . .. . .

the 47RH would not work because where the dipstick goes in the boot of the a518 is way too thick. I tried the alternative methods but in the end i found an old 727 dipstick we had laying around. It comes up in a slightly different location, but fits in the boot nicely and doesn't leak. Problem solved, trans works good!
