Its a getrag, I would get a nv4500 conversion kit. You get a better tranny for about the same cost. Unless you can rebuild the getrag your self.

look at quad4X4 or several other companies offer these kits.

if you decide to keep/rebuild the getrag, put an extra quart of fluid in there.

Passenger side of getrag has a 1/2" pipe plug for a fill hole. Bottom of case is 1/2" plug for drain. 3/8" drive ratchet to remove them. Factory fill is 3.5 quarts of 5w30 engine oil. You should run at least 1 quart overfilled. I run 5 quarts of Mobil1 synthetic 5w30. Overfill either through the shifter with lever removed or by removing one of the top pto cover bolts, and via a pump adding the extra 1-1.5 qts there.

Trans is a Getrag G360.

Putting in an NV4500 is a lot more involved on a 2wd than it is on a 4x4. Getting the Getrag rebuilt by someone else is still cheaper than a conversion on a 2wd.

Standard Transmission has all the parts for a rebuild, as well as conversion parts.

The drain is on the bottom.

A lot of 4x4 guys pull the shifter to fill it. I have a street elbow in the fill hole (end pointed up) and I just use a small funnel. That may not work for you.

I just fill it through one of the upper pto cover bolts on the drivers side, no drive shaft.

If your stock transmission fails, it would be worth it to upgrade. I installed a late model 6 speed in my 2WD 1992. It was a bit pricey but it is so sweet to drive.
My 4WD 1992 just had the stock trans fail and I installed an NV4500 5 speed out of a later truck. The transmission isnt to pricey but you would need a new engine adapter, starter and clutch hydraulics. You would need a different shifter and would have to relocate the shifter hole. It sounds like a lot but it is worth it if you plan on keeping the truck for a long time.

I got rid of my G360 and had a a NV5600 put in and I'm more than happy with it. It makes pulling my fifthwheel a lot better. I even runs 125 RPM slower at the speed I normally drive. It was real pricey but I would do it again if I had to.

I use a suction gun and fill to the holes edge, stick the plug in refill the gun and blow another quart in then quickly put the plug in. That to me is much easier than pulling the shifter. I also hooked up a manual tranny coolr by tapping the PTO cover. Stays right at 200 now, cooler if I put in a differnt sensor.
