92 w250 trans and tc questions

I'm preparing to change fluid on both tranny and TC what fluid type should I use on them?

Also, what auto transmission comes on this model year truck? I'm not sure yet since I didn't drive it much but I don't think is has OD.

I searched the sticky but didn't find a lot, most seem to replace them with another transmission, is this what I should plan on doing? I was hoping I could add a GV behind it at some point but I'm open to other possible options.

Thanks.

It will be an A-518 Trans, It has overdrive. It is sometimes referred to as a 46RH but most of the time it's called a 518 - It has a non lockup torque converter.

You wanna use ATF+ fluid....ATF+4 is what's around these days, and the best

some people swap in a 47RH A-618 trans from a 94-95 truck, just to gain the lockup torque converter

Thank You. Should I use the same fluid in the TC? I normally use 75w90 gear oil.

Anyway to convert it to a lock up? Or maybe any upgrades for this tranny?

I use dex 3 in the trans, 75w90 gear oil is fine for the t-case.

only way to convert to lockup is to basically swap in a 47rh trans.

I see, I just change the fluid on both then, for now.

Where exactly do I put the probe for a aftermarket trans temp gauge, some one told Me on the factory location but I have no idea where it is. I will be a glowshift 3 combo.

Thanks.

In one of the tranny lines coming off the trans, theres a factory temp. sensor in the hot line, i think it is 1/8 npt. that's where you get a good temp. reading

Thats where i have mine, if you can keep the temp under 200* at that point you should be in good shape because thats before it gets cooled.
