Overdrive , i know it works on electrical circut. have had it checked out !Tired of people that dont know what their talking about!!!
There is a throttle position sensor that takes it in and out of overdrive, I also know trans shops have a black test box that lets them check out transmition. This allows them to rerout electrical circut and lock trans in or out of overdrive.
If it will lock in there is no internal problem in trans. I want to build a box and want to know where to hook it up sinse i dont drive the truck a lot ,it would allow me to lock it in overdrive when appropriate.
I love the old truck and will probably keep it for some years yet , its just a pain not being able to use overdrive.

Several guys have replaced the TPS with a potentiometer. C'mon over to the 1st gen section and ask about it. I'm sure one of them will chime in and tell you how it's done.

Easiest way to manually engage OD is to ground the solenoid wire (orange/ white I believe). Run a wire to a good ground, through a toggle switch and splice to said wire. I keep mine wired as a spare for those aggravating times when the TPS, VSS, PCM, gremlins attack.

claude I have the exact same truck, this spring my overdrive stopped working.
It was the solenoid in the tranny. new sol. and a trans kit 225.00 and it is a new truck.
