92(12valve) 46rh(a518) heat exchanger

Hey guys so I'm finished with the front of the engine I'm planning on doing the passenger side next so the oil filter housing gaskets, replacing the fluid to fluid engine oil cooler, rebuilding the turbo, and removing the fluid to fluid heat exchanger for the transmission for pressure testing because they can rot from the inside out and mix coolant and atf. My question is if anyone knows what pressure the exchanger should be able to handle and also what good replacements there are? All I see is people deleting them in the past, but it isn't ideal for me considering I live in a colder climate area the heat exchanger also helps to warm up the transmission not just cool it down. I've read up on the differences of the temperatures with and without the exchanger and I'd much rather keep it so please steer clear of the delete. I've read on marine applications for these engines they normally resort to pressure tests I wanted to know if anyone has found a good replacement as well though as they're discontinued same with the 2nd gen ones. I dont want a used one.

I would think whatever tranny oil pressure and coolant pressure is, test for that.

That's a relief thanks so much man I have been looking the past 2 years, but have only had marine applications popup for heat exchangers or used ones on ebay for our trucks. I'll probably end up just buying that one as well.

will probably just have my oem one pressure tested and keep it as a spare then just in case.

Sweet I'm just a little concerned about the oem one and the engine oil cooler because when I flushed the system the coolant was pretty rough. Got it nice and clear though then went with Caterpillar concentrated coolant and distilled water.

yea $30 a gallon, but some water was left in her anyways so the truck would only take 4 gallons so 2 gallons of concentrate and 2 gallons of distilled water. I think I should've flushed the system one more time so when I do the oil cooler, heat exchanger, and oil filter housing gaskets I'm just gonna get all new coolant again. I ran blue devil flush through the system for 4 hours prior to replacing the thermostat this way after I flushed it I ran the hose right up against the block where the thermostat would be. Got the majority of it out, but will see in the fall how the last flush looks. Might as well flush it again because I still have 1 gallon of Cat coolant and 1 gallon of distilled water so I'll probably only need to buy one of each again because there'll always be water left in the system.

Is Zerex a good one? I don't think I've heard of that one.

Some of us around here use %100 antifreeze in out systems as we feel it keeps the inner workings of the motor from rusting up.

Gallons of 100% are about the same price as the 50/50 pre diluted jugs.

hmm interesting so 100% concentrate only for the system? I always read it was good to go with distilled water, but you guys think I should just get 3 more gallons of Caterpillar coolant?

I have run 100% coolant in a couple of my trucks for years with good results.

I suppose it'd make sense considering these engines run much cooler than a large majority of engines. Most run closer to 210 nowadays.

Do some research on trisodium phosphate to flush your system. When I was a kid we used 100% tap water for years in my old Ford van. (I was in SWFL.) When it came time to move up north we put TSP in it and drove it until all the calcium build up was gone on the radiator fins. Flushed it real good and ran the anti-freeze mix in it. See if you can find some water pump lube.
