The KDP usually doesn't worry me too much on the 1st gens, but the missing case bolt, ruined front crank seal and unsealed timing case was nice to freshen up.

It is the classic question where do you stop the restoration, and still get it done.

And the four words that make it take longer "While I'M at it"

Yeah it can snowball quickly if you don't set some mental limits on how far you really need to go.

Always happy to help out if I can..... And thanks for the kind words.

I did set mental limits but some of my used parts didn't abide by them

I got the stock '92 harmonic balancer back on.
I then pulled the oil pan to swap in a new gasket today.
The bottom of the oil pan looked clean, no sludge, no sparkles.
My daughter helped pull and install the oil pan with me.
It was really nice to have the extra set of hands to get the oil pan back in cleanly.
I ordered and received new exhaust manifold / turbo gaskets so that is the next little project.

That is what it felt like when I was washing them by tossing them in an old sock after spraying brake clean on them.
Nice redneck parts washer.

It made me notice that their where two bolts that where just a tad longer as I was wiping them clean.
Cleaning the old gasket is what really took some time.

awesome project, got a question about your manual trans, was this automatic trans before? im getting close to installing the later pedal tree in my '74, and the earlier harness passes through the firewall right about where the clutch master will reside, just wondering if your dealing with the same, and looking to move the harness.

This was an auto Ramcharger before, but being a '89 it has the proper hole in the firewall for the clutch hydros.

I have had to move the bulk head wiring over to the drivers side a 1/2 inch IIRC on my '85 crew cabs as those came with clutch linkage rather than the hydros.
Then I had to install the clutch hydro bracket on the steering column support after drilling the holes.

Oliver you going to paint the engine? If so what color? I like the Cummins tan look but it doesn't look good with high impact colored valve covers or intake tube.

I wish I had painted my 93 motor the Cummins tan when I had it out for the 4wd conversion...love that color!

I was planning on just re-sealing the motor.
It appears to have had a decent respray of black at some point.
Other than it peeling off the injector lines it looks good to me.

My white crew cab has a Cummins Recon tan motor under the hood.

Oliver sent me some pics today.
