85 Dodge Power Ram Diesel: cummins or mitsu?
What diesel engine would be in this year? When did Dodge start using the cummins 6BT engine? The seller is claiming 30mpg so I'm guessing it's not a cummins 6BT. Thanks.

The Mitsu engine is normally aspirated, right?
I just found this from a google search - a 1985 full size w/ the 6BT. Now I'm confused.

30-MPG doesn't sound very good compared to what I see from the older Ford Ranger-sized diesels of about the same time period.
I have no idea which diesel engine those had; but, two that I know of regularly exceed 50-MPG and both have many thousands of miles on them.
A neighbor has a 76 Ford F-150 with a 430-CASE diesel that easily exceeds 40-MPG and sounds exactly like a CASE farm tractor.

early mitsubishi diesel motor were tuffer n nails!
weak link was the tranny, which would go out multiple times. this was true for gas truck version too. in case anyone thinks tranny problems was due to diesel like our CTD.
if I could find a good clean one... I'd still go for it.

Early to mid 80s Mitsus were turbocharged. (This is also the same engine that went into some Ford Rangers- the NA were Parkins; turboed were Mitsubishi). I've heard of 40mpg with the Rangers. 50mpg, I'd buy one if the body wasnt shot.

It's a turbo diesel 84hp mini truck. I found the full scoop at wikipedia. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Ram_50 )
I contacted the seller. They wanted $3900 for the '85 truck. It sold for full price within hours. I was too late to even get a look. Seems like a lot of money to me but w/ the fuel prices ...
