6x9's in the front door How's everyone mounting them?

Hi all, one of my speakers are fried and the other is probably pretty close. So with that I have some other 6x9's that I would like to replace the stock ones with, but they are slightly larger and have a center tweater in them.

Stock ones mount from the inside of the door. Again, the newer ones are 6x9, but slightly larger so they don't fit in the funky oem dodge plastic mount.

I've seen some people mount them from the outside. So what's the best way of doing this? Suggestions!

Thanks

I just screwed them in and put my door panels back on. But one corner of the panels won't snap back in because of the speaker's tweeter....

When the door panel is on there there is just enough room between the door and the panel that you can mount the speaker from the outside, but you are probably still going to have to cut since you are now trying to fit the whole body of the speaker through........

Tape a piece of plastic along the back of the speaker or something and just let it dangle down.

I had to cut some of the plastic ribbing out of the inside of my door panel....

I screwed mine in, i think i had to use bigger screws or somethin if i remember right. the cover that goes over the speaker wouldn't fit with the door panel though so i left it off, the door panel will protect it anyway.

6x9's

why dont you make some spacers that are the shape of the speaker and mount them on the door and mount speaker to the spacers, you could use 1/2 or 3/4 inch plywood to gain the depth that you do not have in the door

Door panel won't fit over them then.

Unless you want it to look stoopid and put the speakers over the door panel.

Honestly theres so much metallicy kinda sounds coming up through the shifter and up through the floor and from the engine because the valves have probably never been adjusted....

i have to have a radio . haha. i put a factory 3rd gen cd radio in our truck with pioneer 6x9's in the doors and some old Blaupunkt rectangle speakers behind the seat, screwed to the floor (picture each speaker being a heavy steel box, with a speaker and a tweeter in it)

It sounds pretty sweet

I don't think I would bother with a set of Super high end reference type speakers, but having something to listen to with out the pop and crackle of my old speakers will be nice.

I have a set of used speakers and a used deck just for this. The speakers are infinity and I think they are kinda oversized or just oddball 6x9's. I would think most speakers would be a direct replacement and I wouldn't even have to think about this.

Thanks

id like some good speakers. the louder i turn my radio up, the worse it sounds. it typically needs to be loud inside of my truck anyway. its not quiet in there.

Mine were a little big for the oem plastic thingy too so I just shoved mine into it anyways and cut out the centre of the mesh part so the tweeter would fit through and then installed it the same as the factory speaker. Seems to work fine that way.

I mounted mine the same way the old ones were except I left off the plastic rain shield thingy. My mid and tweeter stick out slightly but doesn't hit the door panel. They are old Jensen's with the plastic cones. Waterproof and actually sound great.
