518 Upgrades

I about have my drive train out and would like suggestions for quick and dirty 518 auto upgrades. I already have a good torque converter, plan to adjust the line pressure, and bypass the tps. Aside from that what can I do with the trans out, aside from a rebuild?

How much do you want to spend and what are your plans for the truck?

I don't want to spend much at all. I would love a full rebuild, but it is not in the budget. I think I should probably throw it in the crew and expect a rebuild one day. The truck will be a dd I want to eventually get to about 240 to 280 hp.

Be sure to adjust the bands, and change the fluid and filter.

Don't waste you money and buy any "Shift Kit".

-> Call your favorite shift-kit maker and tell them exactly what you plan to do with the truck. With that, they can steer you toward a most appropriate kit for your needs. That way, you don't end up with a bunch of left over parts and a lot of question marks.

Remember, "Shift Kits" typically modify the quality of shifts (speed of shift, gear overlap interval, engagement speed, etc) and when they occur in relation to the throttle. Be sure to understand all the aspects and how they impact your trans with your driving style.

I got lifetime molar synthetic and it is only two years and about 15000 miles old, I don't want to change it. Do I have to? I think I am going to throw it back in without even draining the fluid. I will mod it later once it blows. It is supposed to already have a stage two shift kit and an upgraded torque converter. I didnt pay enough attention to the tranny shop when they fixed it. I blame my horrible year of grad school, living in a trailer, and having a blown up back. But I don't even know what brand converter they put in, and I didn't catch that they should have put in a second gen flex plate, the cause of the repair. But now my back is fixed, a couple titanium rods and u bolts ( the nuts of which are torqued to 120 foot pounds), grad school is over, and we are in a house; life is good. Anyway, I am going to put of the tranny mods for now. I might drain the fluid to adjust and reuse though, we will see how much I can get down before I get evicted from the shop.
